Vicci Martinez is heading to Sweden on Friday to meet with two writer/producers recommended by her new label, Universal Republic.
With recent hits to his credit, including Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger”, Pink’s “So What” and Adam Lambert’s “Whataya Want from Me” the producer Shellback is going strong and will have a lot to offer Vicci Martinez when she meets with him in Sweden in the next few days.
Shellback, who’s real name is Karl Johan Schuster, is a writer, musician and producer who has recently worked with Miranda Cosgrove, Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne and Usher among others. He has also worked with Robyn. Vicci tweeted on Friday “I’m listening to @Robyn “Hang with Me” soooooo good!”
The style of music Shellback is producing is definitely more like the covers from The Voice than Vicci Martinez’ original music but we know that Vicci is multi-faceted and can bring life to both the power ballad style and her own funk/rock style.
The other person Vicci mentioned she will be working with in Sweden is Peter Svensson. Formerly with the band, The Cardigans, Svensson is a guitarist and writer. When I first heard it, The Cardigans’ music reminded me of Garbage, the Madison, WI band that had some success in the late 90’s. The Cardigans songs such as Lovefool and Erase/Rewind are two examples of this. As a matter of fact, Baz Lurhman used music from both Garbage and The Cardigans in his film Romeo & Juliet. Interesting that Vicci and Aaron Daniel recently wrote a song together called Romeo and Juliet that you can hear and see in our video section.
Neither of these choices seem like a tight fit with where Vicci Martinez has been with her own music, rather they open new doors for Vicci. We’ll have to wait and see what comes of these collaborations. It will be exciting to hear what Vicci’s new album includes. Will new songs she’s been singing lately like “The Morning After” (the first video here) be included or will this album take Vicci in a different direction? Either way, we know Vicci will be “standing in her truth” and we can’t wait to hear what’s next.
