Vicci Martinez is probably playing in a studio right now as she preps for her new release, due out mid-October! On August 30th Vicci tweeted that she was working on a revised version of her song “Touch the Fire”  with Tim Pagnotta. I don’t know about you but I can not wait to hear that! “Touch the Fire” is the first song on Vicci’s live album “Live from Jazzbones.” I know that we all miss Vicci’s tweets but I assure you she hasn’t lost touch with us she is just extremely busy trying to get this album out for all of us to enjoy!

As of right now there are no show dates to announce. Vicci stressed that she was finishing up writing the songs for her album and then was heading into the recording studio for the next several weeks to lay down the tracks.  Vicci has been working with some amazing writers and producers such as Rock Mafia & Desmond Child.

It does appear that after her album hits stores she will be doing some touring. In an August newsletter Vicci and her team stated. “Thanks for the emails, posts etc., and hope to see you out at an upcoming show in the Fall!!” That is music to my ears! So if you haven’t been blessed enough to see Vicci play yet get ready for her to come to a town near you. I am crossing my fingers that she will perform shows across the U.S. so that everyone will get to see what an amazing performer she is! We will continue to keep updating this website and if any changes or news occurs we will put it up right away. We are just as psyched as you are!

Vicci to Collaborate with Music Hit Makers!

We recently found out via Vicci Martinez’s tweet that she is working with Rock Mafia and Desmond Child. With names like these we know her song will be a smash hit and we can not wait to hear it! We have decided to do a little research on them and let you know a little bit about what they have done.

Rock Mafia is a record production/songwriting team, consisting of Tim James, Antonina Armato and A&R/mixing Paul Palmer who are credited for writing and producing for number of pop and rock artists beginning in the early 2000s namely Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, The Beach Girl5, Sick Puppies and other singers.  They are based out of Santa Monica, CA. As as group they have sold over 1 million albums worldwide!

They were hand picked by American Idol’s Jimmy Iovine to help coach a number of season 10 performers. Singers such as Pia Toscano, Haley Reinhart, and  Lauren Alaina to name a few.

They have also worked with Selena Gomez & the Scene, Demi Lovato, Miranda Cosgrove, Vanessa Hudgens, and Patrice Rushen.

Desmond Child producer/songwriter hails out of FL but now calls Nashville, TN is home. He has regined as one of music’s most succesful forces for over 3 decades! His songs have sold for more than 300 million worldwide. His collaborations include Bon Jovi, Bonnie Tyler, Selena, Aerosmith, Ricky Martin, KISS, Kelly Clarkson, Dream Theater, Cher, Rosie Johnson and Alice Cooper.

Desmond’s biggest claim is writing and co-writing for Kiss and his long time now friend Bon Jovi. He helped co-write Livin’ on a Prayer, You Give Love a Bad Name, and Bad Medicine.  In the late 90’s Desmond hooked up with Ricky Martin to write the smash hit Livin’ La Vida Loca.

His latest projects include: The Rasmus, Joss Stone, David Archuleta, Kelly Clarkson, Scorpions, Hilary Duff, Meat Loaf, Ace Young, and his old pals in Bon Jovi. He is credited for co-writing with Katy Perry “Waking up in Vegas.” Desmond has signed a new publishing deal with Universal Music Group.

Desmond has also worked with Tokio Hotel, Weezer, Ace Young, Jesse McCartney, Robbie Williams, and Aerosmith just to name a few!

On June 19th Desmond was inducted into the songwriters Hall of Fame.

Side Note: We as her fans know that this song is going to knock you off your feet. We are looking forward to the day her album drops. Vicci don’t rush on our account! We want this to be the best of the best and with a singer like Vicci Martinez that’s what we will get!

‘The Voice’ Celebs Sweep Duluth Bluesfest

When Vicci Martinez brought out the snare drums, fans of the NBC talent competition “The Voice” knew what was up.

The Washington-based spark plug was going to replay one of the key moments from the show — a cover of Florence and the Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over.” Fellow finalist Beverly McClellan joined her, snagging two snares of her own. They got cheers before they had a chance to tap their drumsticks.

“This was a crazy song I did on the show,” Martinez said.

The duo, obviously friends even off-camera, closed out the 23rd annual Bayfront Blues Festival on Sunday evening at Bayfront Festival Park. Martinez had a spot on the bill before she eased through the televised competition all big voice and cardiovascular-ly inclined. McClellan was added to the lineup last week. Both had just finished a tour featuring the show’s finalists.

McClellan, the bald and tattooed multi-instrumentalist, opened the show with a mix of covers, original songs and big personality. At one point she diddled out the theme song from “Peanuts” on the keyboard, getting big laughs. Martinez followed, sticking to mostly original songs and at one point expressing that she was grateful that she was back with her own band playing her own music. Combined, the finale lasted well beyond the time slot and Martinez seemed willing to play until someone cut the power.

JoEllen Nelson and her 10-year-old daughter, Sophie, came down to Bayfront Festival Park specifically to see fan favorites from “The Voice.”

“Beverly had a really strong voice and I like how Vicci is so talented,” Sophie Nelson said.

Ashley Yehling of St. Paul would have been at bluesfest regardless of the lineup — but the Martinez and McClellan finale drew her in close to the stage.

“Normally I just sit back there,” she said, gesturing into the distance.

Yehling said she doesn’t usually watch reality TV, but “The Voice” caught her attention. Admittedly, she was Team Dia Frampton when the show aired. But Martinez was also one of her favorites.

The Fredrick family of Kettle River hasn’t watched the show, but they do have a tradition of checking out Sunday’s bluesfest lineup. They had not heard of Martinez and McClellan before Sunday.

“We’re trying to decide what to download when we get home,” Kim Fredrick said.

Julia Allshouse of California was one of the first in line for a meet-and-greet at the merchandise tent after the performance. The finale was a surprise to her, although she had watched “The Voice” and was a fan of Beverly.

“Her attitude,” she said. “She’s a normal person. She’s dorky on stage. She doesn’t want to be quiet up there.”

McClellan threatened to steal the show before it started. She borrowed Martinez’s band and performed Sublime’s “What I’ve Got,” and Etta James’ “The Rock.” She busted strings on her guitar and was so exuberant it seemed she would burst out of her heavily inked skin. After her guitar went kaput, she made for the keyboard.

Martinez, who has started work on an album that probably will come out in the fall or early winter, snuck a couple covers into a mostly original set. She played “Jolene,” the Dolly Parton song that she claims as one of her favorite performances from “The Voice.” She also did Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.”

But the one that brought down the house was “Dog Days Are Over” and, as on the show, Martinez leapt around the stage earning a nickname from at least one fan.

“They should call her ‘Crazy Legs Martinez,’ ” Fredrick said.

Vicci Martinez to Play at the Bayfront Blues Festival on 8-14-2011

If Duluth has the get-off-the-sofa blues this weekend, we may not even know it. That’s because the most-talked-about headliner at the 23rd annual Bayfront Blues Festival is Vicci Martinez, a singer-songwriter and a performer we’ve grown accustomed to seeing on television.

In the early 2000s, Martinez — “a young spitfire,” as the News Tribune’s Christa Lawler described her this week — was a regional finalist on “American Idol.” She opted out after early rounds because, she said, “Basically they own your soul,” and because, “They also wanted to change my style.” A few years later, Martinez was on “Star Search.” This summer she was a finalist on the NBC-TV reality competition, “The Voice,” which allowed her to perform with pop superstar Cee Lo Green.

She’ll take the stage in Duluth with fellow “The Voice” finalist Beverly McClellan, a multi-instrumentalist who favors a bluesy rock sound. They’ll cap off the three-day festival, Duluth’s can’t-miss, circle-the-dates-on-your-calendar, premiere summertime event. Other headliners include bluesfest regular Tommy Castro and a band that would be a huge deal if this was still 1993, Big Head Todd & the Monsters.

Whoever you’re eager to see at Bayfront Festival Park, or at clubs around town (schedules and other information are posted at bayfrontblues.com), the important things is you’re off the couch and soaking up some sun and sounds — and that you have the blues, no matter what kind of blues you prefer.
